Trash – and my daughter loved the

“all i could think about was the lies, stacking up now, and how i hoped it was worth it. ”. A 14-year-old boy named raphael, a “dumpsite boy,” finds a valuable item in the trash where he and his friends forage daily in hopes of collecting items to sell to survive. The item is valuable to a powerful person. He and his posse will go to great lengths to get it back. Initially, they’ve revealed to an aunt that they’ve found something, and the fact that she tells this to the authorities brings them under suspicion while they deny the truth. They find it hard to keep the secret (or continue the lie), which leads to potentially severe consequences for them and their friends and family. Much of the book is spent with the boys avoiding the bad guys while trying to keep possession of the item secret and trying to solve the mystery behind the item they found. Trash is an entertaining but pretty basic story about poverty and perseverance. Better: holes by louis sachar, hoot by carl hiaasen and maximum ride by james patterson.

Andy mullingan does an admirable job with this young adult fiction. I have many grand children and am always in the market for great stories that will get them thinking about who they are and how they relate to the world around them. This one will be one of our family vacation reads.

Wish i could recommend this for a must read for middle school but with the restriction on what books to let the ‘guarded’ children of today read. I could only give it 4 stars. Do the ‘children’ of today know that the poverty level today is 90% or hanging on to the middle class status, while the other 10% or less keep their shades drawn against the poor and how they have to survive?.

I started ‘trash’ this afternoon and could not leave it until i was finished. Mr mulligan has written a compelling story, with beautiful and complex characters whom i think do justice to both the people living in those dreadful conditions and to the volunteers working with them. It also gives a glimpse into the darker side of manila, with its corruption and abuses of all sort, with the low value given to (some) human lives. It also shows part of why change, here as in other similar situations, is so hard.

I picked up this novel because i was looking for something new and fresh to add to my classroom reading list; i thought it might be a high interest story for my students (7th grade), something to keep them from getting squirmy in their seats when they hear the words, ‘and the next novel we will read is. ‘simply put, this book is breath-taking. From the descriptions of the dumps to the charisma of its protagonists, this book is a page-turner. Mulligan sets his novel in a fictional third world country, although there are elements that suggested to me the setting could be our very own united states (i. – a train station called ‘central,’ possibly alluding to grand central). In a clearly dystopian society, there seems to be no middle class–only the wealthy and powerful and the ne’er-do-wells. The poor live in the city dumps where they sift through mountains of garbage on a daily basis looking for food, clothing, and any item of value to sell. It is in one such pile that raphael, a young boy of about 13, discovers a map, a wallet, and a key–all items of great value, great mystery, and great danger.

I found this book excellent, even though i think it was written for the younger set. Wonderful story, well written, and one that all young people should read.

This book is required reading for freshman high school, and my daughter loved the story.

This book was assigned summer ready. Many themes to challenge young readers.

The book was interesting and made one think, but not enough to bore you. The book had everything that i was hoping for.

Love these kids and the setting. Love these kids and the setting. Want to know more about this world.

A lot of suspense, but confusion as well. There was a lot of confusing parts but overall not too bad, it was a great expiernce for my literature.

Great plot and a real page turner made me cry. I love how this book was based on andy mulligan’s experience in manila and london, and how there was a change in the plot with interesting characters, that made you wanna read more.

This book was very well written and told a very suspenseful and interesting story. I couldn’t put it down and immediately bought a copy for my classroom as i think my students would love it too.

The thriller trash, by andy mulligan, is an exciting adventure, set in a developing country much different than our own. Trash brings you into a world that most people will never have the misfortune to see: a huge garbage dump, whose stench and filth is really almost unimaginable to folks like us, whose trash is tidily placed in black plastic bags and conveniently handled for us by sanitation workers. Most of us never see what happens after these workers pick up our trash; where it really ends up and in fact, we probably don’t really want to know. This story is about the place where trash does ends up, in a third world country, and what life is like in this place for three young garbage pickers. Until the day something incredible happens that changes all this and gives them hope for the future. Trash is very atmospheric, setting the scene with images of miles and miles of raw rotting garbage, human waste, and the overwhelming stench. The descriptions were so good i could practically taste the horrible stench myself. Raphael says, ‘it’s a place they call behala, and it’s rubbish town. Three years ago it was smoky mountain, but smoky mountain got so bad, they closed it up and shifted us along the road.

13 year old read this for a good report. Was able to follow the storyline.

Rotary Recycling Center-, I love this thing

Best thing in my entire kitchen. I have to say this is quite possibly the best thing in my kitchen. My husband was really sceptical about installing thing afraid that we would destroy our hardwood custom cupboards. The cupboards were installed about 10 years ago. I have been looking for the perfect thing for garbage and recycling. Garbage cans take up lots of room and let’s face it don’t do anything for your decor. Which is why when you put your house on the market you are suposed to remove them from all rooms. This unit puts use to a deep cupboard that made it hard to organize. My other lazy suzann cupboard holds all my kitchen appliances within reach. In stead of installing it directly in the middle, we put it closer to the front.

I ordered the rotary recycler in december, but because of previous reviews, hesitated to install it until yesterday. Yes, the instructions are pretty weak, and yes, you will most likely need a saw to shorten the main bar, but oh, i had it installed in less than 30 minutes. I wish i had done it soonerif you already have a lazy susan in your corner cabinet, taking that out and installing the rotary recycler is pretty simple. The bins are quite large and easy to remove. Over all, i think i will be quite satisfied with this purchase.

The recycling center was exactly what i needed. Kv is a reputable company that has supplied cabinet makers for years. The product was easy to install, reasonably priced, and arrived quickly.

Comments from buyers

“round or square?, This is SO MUCH BETTER than a carousel in the corner cabinet!, Best Thing in my entire Kitchen!”

This is the greatest invention since sliced bread. Installed easily, and is admired by everyone who see it.

I installed it in just a few minutes. I installed it in just a few minutes, and it passed my husbands inspection. It’s very easy to load in and out, and it spins very very well. We have really enjoyed this investment. We bought this to replace the lazy-susan we didn’t like. It fit well into our cabinets, which surprised me, because the cabinet has a rounded back (it’s a newer type), and i thought that would make it too small.

I have arthritis and can’t do much installation myself anymore. This was a piece of cake and did not require any cutting mentioned in other reviews.

We installed these and love them. I don’t like normal lazy susans (things fall and get lost) so we installed this to separate our recycling. Where we live you have to separate into metal, paper, glass, cardboard and plastic. It comes with sticker so you can label what is what. We decided to dedicate the three trash cans in the recycling center to metal, glass, and plastic. These three b/c plastic isn’t heavy and we don’t use much metal and glass. We are storing our paper elsewhere b/c that’s what we recycle the most of and it’s heavy. Though the recycling center is very sturdy we figure it’ll hold up better in the long run if we store our paper elsewhere. We built our cabinets so there was a lot of extra room to either side of the bins.

Great idea makes good use of a troublesome corner cabinet. No longer bending to search for items in over crowded lazy susan ,or worse behind it. Keeps unsightly garbage neetly hidden. Also good price and fast service.

We had just bought a new home with two lazy-susan corner cabinets but little kitchen space for a wastebasket let alone a recycling center. Happened upon this rotary recycling center while perusing amazon and we are very happy with this discovery. It was so easy to install and works so well for our recycling needs. We have recommended it to many friends and family.

Great and well placed and easy to set up.

It installed easily and provided a good. It installed easily and provided a good use for the difficult corner cabinet space. I renovate kitchens for a living and this is my default use for corner cabinets.

I’ve never been a lazy susan person, and i also don’t like my trash out in the open. This is a fantastic idea, and the item does exactly what it looks like it does. The instructions on getting it together could be much better (for example, i don’t remember the name of the piece, but you have to insert the set screws into the piece before you slide them onto the pole, and only the bottom one needs them as the top one is what rotates,) and the supplied pole didn’t fit in my cabinet (an adjustable pole would be ideal) but i was able to fit the supplied hardware onto my existing lazy susan pole and after a little calibrating it works just fine. So, the 4 stars due to the instructions and the pole not fitting. If i hadn’t had an existing lazy susan in there i would have been out of luck. Shipping and packaging was fine, came right on time. This really is a great product, i love it.

Excellent use of the corner cabinet. Excellent use of the corner cabinet. Directions could be better but easy to figure out install.

So wonderful to have all bons in the same spot. And it is using a seldom used space to boot.

This product makes great use of space in the kitchen. Eventhough i list some real frustrations below i cannot overstate how much i love the idea of the project to solve a very real problem in my kitchen. If you are retrofitting into and existing cabinet – which you probably are – be aware that this can be a very tight squeeze. My corner cabinet has a rounded back inside instead of being an open square box. I used the template to place the center post. With that rounded back wall, the unit did not even fit in. I spent the better part of the day making small adjustments – very frustrating. Now the unit turns but scrapes badly when the doors reach the back of the rotation. Had to walk away from it for a week before i could bare to try any more adjustments.

It was exactly what i was looking for.

Great way to use space in place of broken lazy susan. When we bought our house one of the lazy susan’s door was broken. Hubby tried to fix it, but it couldn’t be fixed without remodeling the kitchen. So, i found this product while looking for a simple recycling bin. However, it’s worth every penny we spent. My hubby had no problem installing the product on the existing lazy susan pole. I find that with the recycling center right by the kitchen sink we are recycling much more than we used to when the recycling bucket was in a utility closet. We use one bin for glass/metals, one for paper/cardboard, and one for plastics. We are very pleased with this purchase.

It was exactly what i was looking for.

Great, it is just as i hoped it will be. Hopefully now when my parents come to visit, it will be more obvious which is the recycling bin & which is the trash. Digging recycling out of the trash is never fun.

This is a great quality, vinyl decal. It adhered very nicely to a black, smooth surfaced trash can for indoor use and appears that it will last a very long time.

Recycling Symbol WHITE vinyl cut-out sticker 4.5″ – NOTEBOOK, LAPTOP, IPAD, WINDOW, WALL, CAR, TRUCK, MOTORCYCLE, TRASH CAN, GARBAGE CAN : Looks great on our black recycling can.

The right materials helped transfer succeed. Bought two to adhere to a plastic garbage can; the decals would not adhere on the first few attempts–i suspect not because of a defect in the decal but rather the surface of the can; we then applied mineral spirits to the surface and tried again. The decal slowly began to release from the backing and with careful burnishing, we were able to transfer it beautifully. Perhaps the mineral spirits softened some of the adhesive?.We now have exactly what we set out to create.

Just make sure the area is clean and dry.

Used as marking out trash for recycling.

Adhered perfectly to our recycling bin (smooth surface on the lid).

Looks great on our black recycling can.

Nice stickers, so far they are staying attached and not peeling, make sure to clean surface well with mineral spirits or paint thinner or even rubbing alcohol first.

Now now one asks which can is for recycling.

Put it on the house recycle bin and looks fabulous. Went on easily and was at my house only a few days after ordering. Just wish they had slipped a piece of cardboard in with the letter they mailed it in, just incase it got bent during shipping.

I bought this for my rubbermaid garbage can in my kitchen, since i have 2 of the same can. One for garbage and one for recycling, people often get confused as to which one to use. It sticks great to my can and now makes it very clear where the recycling goes. For the price, you can’t go wrong.

Works perfectly on our recycle bin on our house. We got tired of telling guests which bin was trash and which was recycling.

Recycling symbol white vinyl cut-out sticker. .

Nice stickers for my recycling bin. My recycling bin that i purchased at a major retailer did not have the recycling symbol on all the sides. These quality stickers fixed the problem.

Our town started curbside recycling so i needed to mark my container as such and these stickers did the trick, now my recycle is picked up and not mistaken for normal trash.

UNITED SOLUTIONS TB0056 34 gallon Blow Molded Recycling Trash Can : Was very useful if you have lots of recycling

Works great for our recycling and fits in the garage nicely. The handle that locks the lid on is great being that it travels in the back of my truck to the recycling center so i dont have to worry about the lid flying off.

I definitely recommend buying it. This recycle bin has worked really well, i definitely recommend buying it. As per another review, it’s not the sturdiest of materials, but it gets the job done.

Fits a good amount of recyclables.

The large capacity recylcling trash can is very well made. It’s lightweight but very durable. The rollers make it super easy to navigate. We actually have to use our city recycling bins so we have to transfer it to them. Very happy with this purchase.

34 gallon recycling trash can. Arrived in large box, but well-packed. Good for recycling as we throw all our aluminum and glass into this and don’t have to sort since we are a single-stream town. Great to just wheel out to curb.

I’ve only had it a month but i suspect it will hold up well. It was slightly smaller than i imagined, so pay attention to the dimensions when you are ordering. I will be ordering a second one shortly.

Everything is as expected but. Everything is as expected but the plastic is a little cheap feeling. However, for the price that is to be expected.

Not as thick as i had hoped. The lid is not attached so it can easily get away from the container.

Plastic wheel broke after 3 uses—-edited review. This did not come in a box – the lid was taped to the container. After only using it 3 times to roll some paper trash down to the curb the plastic wheel broke off right at the center. I can’t fix it or send it back – i’ll just get better, not plastic wheels, to replace the broken wheel. Perhaps the wheel got excess use in transporting it to my house, not in a box. I expected to get more use out of it than 3 trips to the curb. Edited reviewi still had the sticker on the can and decided to write to the manufacturer, united soluntions. They are sending me replacement wheels, they will be the same type, i am hopeful they will last longer, and perhaps the broken wheel was a product of mishandling in transit. I feel satisfied that my concern was met.

Large enough for recycling but not too big. Fits perfect in the space i wanted. It’s light plastic, which is fine as long as you don’t manhandle it.

Was very useful if you have lots of recycling. Was very useful if the amount of recycling you generate exceeds one bucket during your trash collection period and you can’t get another. Recommend you spend about $3 and buy a steel chain about 2 to 3 foot long, and some thin machine screws with nuts, pop the top plug on the lid and insert the chain into the lid with the screws to prevent the chain from coming out of the lid, and to secure the other end of the chain to the handle. This way the lid will not get lost and your recycling won’t get strewn over the neighborhood if the can tips over.

Well constructed with durable wheels. Would be nice to have added a latch when closed to prevent wind from blowing it open.

Takes some elbow grease to get it off, but no way can any raccoon get inside ;).

Rubbermaid Commercial Slim Jim Recycling Container : Well-built and sturdy

Super heavy duty, excellent in the kitchen.

Great size and but you have to order the lid. Great size and but you have to order the lid separately and it is not a cheap lid. Hence, it works perfectly where i placed it. I just wish the color is lighter green the way it was shown on the site but it came very dark green and i also wish it comes with the lid – lid was very expensive so this product is became expensive. Otherwise, i am a happy camper.

This can be a great bin for some people. This can be a great bin for some people. In my case, once the bag is full, it can be incredibly heavy to carry out to the city pick up. Disappointed that one has to pay more for the lid.

We had a small disaster with the recycle stuff in our home. This is exactly what we needed. In our community, you can combine all the recycle stuff into one pickup container. This makes the recycling a lot less hassle.

Rubbermaid Commercial Slim Jim Recycling Container with Venting Channels, Plastic, 23 Gallons, Green (354007GN) : This looks great in our kitchen. This looks great in our kitchen, which is all dark green. Even though it’s for recycling, i use it as a kitchen trash can.

Very sturdy recycle container.

Great for on the porch or mudroom. Tucks into a corner and blends well with environment. Sturdy but not too heavy to lift when full of recyclables.

Rubbermaid tends to be better. Good product, good price, shipped as promised. Rubbermaid is expensive but worth the money for our restaurant.

Great high quality trash can. I have 3 of these now around the garage and in the basement, i love’em. The bag is super easy to secure to the can, easy to remove once full and very high quality plastic. The color of the green i received is more a forest green rather than a normal ‘recycle’ green but it works as it should and i guess doesn’t really matter.

Perfect for a weeks recycle items for our home. I love the narrow size that fits next to my counter and is just a little shorter. It holds so much that i only empty it once a week when the trash is picked up. Although the swing top lid is costly, it works great for our second slim jim that we use for garbage. One can on each side of our counter.

Works great and saves space.

It is going to last forever. . It is going to last forever.

Works great and saves space.

It is a trash bin, a bit expensive but you get what you pay for.

Bought several and highly recommend. These are extremely sturdy and work great along a wall for recycling. We replaced several 55 gallon bins with these at work and they saved a bunch of space in the areas we put them. We also bought the lids for cans and highly recommend the cans and lid as a great recycle bin.

Recycling helper is nice addition. These make a great set along with the blue slim jim. It helps to identify different types of recycling and we will be using the blue for mixed paper/plastic/cans/glass and then use the green for compostable things like napkins, food scrapes, paper cups, etc. The cost is pricey when you add on appropriate lids, but they are very heavy duty and will stand up to lots of abuse. The narrow size allows them to fit flat against a wall and not stick out into the working/walking areas.

Well-made, but darker green than the photo shows. . We recently started a recycling program at work, so we ordered several of these slim jim recycling containers as well as some smaller rubbermaid containers for under the desks. These are well made and definitely serve their purpose, but they are not the bright green shown in the photo. They’re a dark hunter green, the same color as the other rubbermaid recycling products. We found liners cheapest at our local members-only bulk club. I bought the 33 gallon clear plastic liners and they fit great.

Lightning buy – cant be beat at that price. Compared to the box stores, about 1/2 the price. Getting a good deal on the lids was more tricky.

Space saving and keeps you organizedfits right in my closet by front door.

Heavy duty and sturdy, it’s hard to find them in green anywhere else. The only drawbacks are the price and a lack of green lid choices.

Clean Cubes 3-Pack Disposable Bathroom/Car/Baby Trash Cans – Great for some things, not suitable for the car

Helping my tradeshow budget. These were exactly what i was looking for. Was exhibiting at a tradeshow and the show organizers were charging $25 per for, in essence, this exact products. So, being able to ship something to the event, having it ship small, and set up easy, was a very nice way to save $75. I will definitely use these again with future shows.

These are great on trips and camping.

They are a little smaller than a brown grocery bag. You just fill them up, tie them up and throw away, just that easy. Here are the specifications for the Clean Cubes 3-Pack Disposable Bathroom/Car/Baby Trash Cans:

Disposable and convenient, great for parties, travel, etc. . I purchased these for my trip to guatemala. I got 2 packages, we used a couple of them in the bathrooms at my daughter’s party in july and the rest at the house we stayed in while there for the bathroom trash. My mother in law actually fell in love with these and asked me to bring more on the next visit because they were so easy to use and the disposable factor was perfect. The only downside was that yes, they are made of paper (kind of like a big gift bag) and one time there was a lot of water on the bathroom floor and unfortunately it soaked through the bag and it could no longer be used since it was so wet. So keep them away from the shower, or where there will be a wet surface. These are also a good size for a small gathering, and i used one in my room during my stay there, we were able to reuse it over several weeks in a row by not throwing liquids or food etc. In it to prolong its use, and just dumped the contents every week into the bathroom ones if they weren’t full or into a bigger trash bag. I really thought these were nice and i was able to pack them in my luggage easily as well. I hope when i go to guatemala next summer i will still be able to find them online at a good price.

For a glorified thicker paper bag with a trash bag. For a glorified thicker paper bag with a trash bag stuck inside, these are ok, but i don’t know how they’ll stand up to use. I have these in very light duty places such as the guest bedroom or basement bathroom.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Disposable and convenient, great for parties, travel, etc.
  • Lovely and practical way to depose of trash
  • Great for some things, not suitable for the car

So in all reality, you are paying for three thick paper bags with a plastic lining. They did exactly what i wanted- provided a few extra trash receptacles without paying for the price of a trash can. That being said, you might as well get a box and put a plastic bag in it. I give them 4 stars because as i said, they do what they advertise. However, i would not purchase again.

Great ideal and easy clean up. . I love these for cats deliveries and bathrooms.

I love that it stays open in the car, unlike some other car trash bins that i have used. This way, i can easily throw garbage in the bin while i am driving. It’s sturdy enough that i can use it in my car all summer, but cheap enough that i can throw it away when it gets gross and sticky (which i can’t do with the more-expensive canvas/plastic bins).

They are a little smaller than a brown grocery bag. You just fill them up, tie them up and throw away, just that easy.

I use these in my bathrooms and in my laundry room.

Got these little ones by accident. They are much better and if give those 5 stars. They aren’t that big and they hold more trash, with normal kitchen size bags.

For a glorified thicker paper bag with a trash bag. For a glorified thicker paper bag with a trash bag stuck inside, these are ok, but i don’t know how they’ll stand up to use. I have these in very light duty places such as the guest bedroom or basement bathroom.

The extra space needed for waste when entertaining. These cubes are great for entertaining. Offers extra space for the increased waste when hosting a large group. I always have on hand for the holidays.

Really like the simplicity of them and the neatness. Soooooo clean and very neat… use them outside all the time. Really, really like the simplicity of them and the neatness.

Lovely and practical way to depose of trash. They are so well constructed, attractive and ever so practical. I use them in the bath rooms and what a pleasure to bundle them up and depose of them. I also consider this to be very hygienic as well. Many bravos to the group who developed these. I will be purchasing them again and again.

Cheap, easy, effective, delivered. These are a super-effective and absurdly simple solution when you need multiple small waste containers. And they come lined with a small, good quality draw-string garbage bag (bonus).

Great little box garbage cans. Great for recycling and picnics.

So glad to find the mini size again. Unlike some of the other reviews, i absolutely love these. The mini size is perfect for the car. I have never had them collapse as one person stated. You simply have to open it fully and you are good. This is the perfect size to fit between the front and back seat and allows me to keep the car much cleaner. I do not find it to be wasteful as someone stated, i can use the same one for months and unless someone throws something sticky in it it stays clean and reusable after dumping.

Glad OdorShield Tall Kitchen Drawstring Trash Bags – Our standard for stinky trash!

Sturdy trash bags that smell really amazing. I don’t know how, but i never thought i’d enjoy a trash bag. They work with the simple human 13 gallon trash cans and it’s a great price in bulk. Amazon often has coupons attached to them and i also have them on my prime subscribe and save so i get another 15% off the discounted price.

These are the best kitchen bags i have found. They have a light, and pleasant febreze scent to them. They keep the trash odors to a minimum, and are durable enough you can cram a pizza box in them if you’re mega lazy and think recycling is a problem, or your area does not offer it. Never had one bag leak or rip and i have dumped in old watermelon halves, chili, you name it.

My new ‘go-to’ kitchen trash bags. These bags smell great and they keep that nasty scent out of the kitchen for a long time. The scent does eventually lose out if you have some extra stinky trash, or it has been there for a long-time, but overall these bags will make life a little more pleasant. They are also very durable and can hold their own when it comes to heavy food waste. As long as the price is right, these will be my new ‘go to’ trash bags.

  • The Pregnant Nose Never Lies!
  • These bags do a great job at keeping trash together and keep my kitchen
  • Lovely scent, but not as good as the ForceFlex ones.

Best price for a 80 count box of bags that last me a year. I’l never need to remember to buy them again with ‘subscribe & save’. Cannot even find the 80 count boxes in my supermarkets. This is yet another item i have on ‘subscribe and save’, and receive an additional 15% off the amazon regular price. I used to purchase another brand of kitchen trash bags, but tried these scented glad bags once and became hooked on the fresh fragrance. They are study enough to hold up to a week’s worth of trash (i recycle a bit as well, so my trash has diminished), but the best thing about getting them here is i won’t need to think about buying bags for the next year and do not need to haul them from the market to my house with the convenience of home delivery. Does it get any better than this??.

Is it weird that i have a favorite trash bag?. These are my absolute favorite trash bags. We have been using them for several years now, though we have no always bought them on amazon. Once i discovered the joys of subscribe and save, this was added to my schedule of deliveries. In my personal opinion, they are high quality and smell great. My only real wish is that they do something to strengthen the drawstrings as well as the top area around them. I have had quite a few fall apart on me in that area and it is a real mess and pain when it happens. . But they are still my favorite (likely due to the lavender scent).

My wife is for sure the clean one in our relationship. . All too often she brings up the ‘hygeine-gap’ that exists between us. I don’t know what she’s talking about. When we first started dating, i was amazed how her place always looked like a maid had just cleaned it. Even her trash smelled amazing. Low and behold, this was her sneaky secret all along. This will keep just about all the odors in your can and keep your house from smelling like a dump. I’ve tossed onion ends, garlic peels, and a cornucopia of stink into these bags and they always manage to keep it the stink in, and even exude a nice fragrant, at least its time to put the garbage out.

The bags are strong and adequate for normal kitchen waste. They are packaged in a convenient roll. I actually hate the scent, but i can tolerate it. It does not smell a thing like lavender. It’s some synthetic chemical version of a floral scent, but not lavender. The scent doesn’t last as long as advertised, in my opinion, and it doesn’t mask any odors.

Love the scented bags; may be too strong for some. These are the same quality as the other glad bags. The scent is very strong at first –like holding a full box of dryer sheets in your hand–and mellows a bit after the bag’s been opened, but it does have very good staying power even once the bag is full. I love these because of the scent– the last bag in the box is as fully scented as the first– but if you’re sensitive to strong chemical or perfume odors, these could potentially be overwhelming.

The febreze is great for a kitchen trash bag, i definitely think it helps with the smell. However, these bags do not fit. Not sure if they changed the size or if it’s just these. When i buy them in the grocery store, i have no issues. It’s super annoying because the bag always falls into the trash can. And now i have to get thru 110 of them before buying new ones. If they fit the trash can, i would give them 5 stars. I don’t recommend buying this product.

Glad the holes in the bags didn’t make a bigger mess. About 80% of the bags so far (from an 80-pack ordered in nov 2013) have holes in them where the side seams were cut too close. I’m sure amazon will make this right, but i’ve got to give this product 1 star. Edit: as expected, amazon quickly sent me a replacement box. The new box is fine (as every other box has been). I’m bumping this from 1 star to 4 stars since it looks like it was a one-off problem and it was taken care of promptly.

I love these trash bags for the simple reason they are. I love these trash bags for the simple reason they are durable, heavy duty and they help cut odors tremendously. I use them for the baby’s diaper pail and what a difference it makes. This product combines my two favorite products into one, glad and febreze gain sent. How could it get any better. The drawstring tie closure make clean up a breeze. I will continue to use this product on my subscribe and save each month.

But i think i speak for everyone who’s job it actually is to empty the trash that there is a world of difference in bag quality/. My gf is the budgeteer between us, but occasionally i have to stand my ground about buying ‘name brand’ things. :d trash bags are one of them. Yes, we could buy some generic trash bags and save a dollar or two, but i think i speak for everyone who’s job it actually is to empty the trash that there is a world of difference in bag quality/strength between generics and name brands like glad. The ‘odorshield’ is largely a gimmick, and can actually make things worse sometimes when you have some disgusting things mixing with the scent (admittedly, this is also usually a result of a certain someone being too lazy to take the trash out), but these are sometimes cheaper than the no-odor bags, and the scent does cover up normal loads of trash from the kitchen just fine.

Fantastic smell and i recommend highly. I love my scented glad bags for trash liners. I have a big trashcan for the kitchen and i live alone so i don’t empty it as often as families would. On top of that i live in florida where the climate is quite hot. I’m sure you get the idea of trash sitting around for a week or more getting stinky. Every sense i tried these bags for the very first time i’ve bought nothing else but these bags. Fantastic smell and i recommend highly.

Strong, easy to use and keeps down odors. Subscribe and save makes it a great price too. I subscribe and save to these and get them at 15% off for a total of $12. I have found these bags to work well in our 13 gallon kitchen trash bin. The lemon smell is one that i like and am very familiar with. It does keep down the odors for a few days. Really smelly items will still overwhelm the febreze, but i have found that at minimum i am not having to disinfect and clean the plastic bin as often. The odors don’t seem to leave the bag as much as other bags i have used in the past. The force flex works well for us.

Two kids in diapers, so i was looking for something that would control the smell. This has done the best job of anything by far. I tried the glad with arm and hammer and it did not do the job nearly as well. I can tell where i notice the most improvement is when i take the trash out. The trash can does not reek of very old, gross, toddler poo. It does not smell pleasant or anything like that, it just has a faint gross smell. I can tell you these bags get the job done. Not only that, but they are strong. A bag full of used diapers is no problem.

I fell in december & tore the skin off my nose. Although i kept it moist while healing it ended with darker skin. I decided to give this product a try after reading reviews (thank you all). My nose is amazingly 40-50% better. I find using a soft luffa type scrub on my face in my morning shower to have definitely helped. This product absolutely works.

One of the few brands that actually do what i need them to do with my garbage. I have two children in diapers, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 4 teenagers. I need trash bags that can keep up with my family, especially since i am ocd about odor in my home and the kitchen’s garbage can sits in an area that is near an entrance to the dining room and the great room. Needless to say i need very strong bags that eliminate or at least hold in odor. I also prefer drawstring bags as it makes it so much easier to take them outside. Thee garbage bags have done an amazing job for me. They control odor, they hold up to heavy loads of garbage, and they don’t leak when i carry them through the house to the garbage cans outside. When you combine all of this with the fact that the subscribe and save price is amazing, you really can’t go wrong. Whether your household consists of 2 or 12, these will do the job right.

Perfectly developed for hiding noxious odors. Don’t pay attention to people claiming the scent is too strong or bad. It’s just right for knocking out severe odors trash can cause. I use these bags for my rv to avoid using the black tank. These bags combined with poo powder and sometimes kitty litter eliminates -all- odors, which is important in the small space of an rv. No black tank filth to deal with. These bags are perfect when you want to cover up any kind of noxious odor.

These are my new favorite kitchen garbage bags. They are strong, have ties, they stretch, & febreze scent. These are my new favorite kitchen garbage bags. They are strong, have ties, they stretch, and to top it off they have the fresh scent of febreze. The scent isn’t over powering. Just enough that you notice it when you open a new bag, and when you close a bag it keeps the bad odors inside. I like these so much i included them on my subscribe ‘n save delivery. The price is a good value too, and by having it on subscribe ‘n save with 4 other items i save am additional 15%. This is one item i’ll be sticking with and i won’t find myself in the trash bag aisle trying to choose among dozens of brands and styles ever again.

Junkyard Planet: Travels in the Billion-Dollar Trash Trade : Finally, a recycling book about real world recycling economics

The economics of the global scrap trade. The scrap yards that i remember from my youth were what the author refers to as auto junkyards. I always believed they were the one and only place where scrap went, whether it was a car being sold in pieces or put into a crusher and turned into a pile of junk metal. I never really knew that there were places that specialized in other types of scrap, but i soon learned about the long history of scrap yards as i read this book. The author takes the reader on a tour of the various types of scrap that exist. From electrical wire, to electric motors, to plastics, to cars and to steel and aluminum and many more, each type of scrap has a market and a place in the recycling pecking order. In addition, there are places in china that specialize in each of these types of scrap. Our garbage is china’s, and to a lesser extent, india’s raw materials from which new products spring. Each has a growing economy and a developing middle class that wants the same goods that are present in the united states. In addition, we are still addicted to buying inexpensive merchandise from china and the “raw” materials have to come from somewhere.

In my continuing education about the global economy and what commodities are considered valuable, this was an essential read. I had been into the recycling craze back in the ’70s ( old hippie, giving away my age now. ) and given it quite some thought over the years. Most recently i have questioned the wisdom of buying new vehicles every few years even to have one that gets better gas mileage ( why i still have a 23 year old car that gets just as good mileage as many newer models, has no car payments and super low insurance). I have heard the environmental argument about the recycling plants in developing countries – so, duh, if you don’t like it, stop consuming so much stuff and then throwing it out. Better to go to china and get reused on some level than to dump it in the landfill. The author got me thinking what else gets landfilled that some inventive and enterprising person is going to invent a way to reuse it.

Adam minter made this an interesting. Adam minter made this an interesting treatment of what could be a very dry subject. He establishes his credibility and convinces the reader he knows his subject.

Where is your recycling going?. This book will change your whole attitude toward single stream recycling, or at least make you thing a whole bunch. Great pictures and a truly first hand look at what happens to recycled matter.

Junkyard Planet: Travels in the Billion-Dollar Trash Trade

Highly, highy recommend: junkyard planet. This is a must-read for anyone interested in the environment, especially any one with an opinion about recycling. It’s a fabulous read about the everyday items in our life and their afterlives. Provocative, insightful, you’ll never look at christmas tree lights the same way, and you may change your mind about opinions you hold dear.

And a good deal about the foundations of the manufacturing business. A surprisingly interesting book. You learn about the alternative to mining, — the junk or recycling business, it’s impact on the environment, there’s lessons about canny businessmen, and a good deal about the foundations of the manufacturing business. An amazing amount of separate threads all centered around junk.

This books gives a a look into the world of what happens to our “stuff” once we are done using it up. It opens ones eyes to what we consider waste is indeed a resource. Well thought out and organized.

Surprising and evocative memoir of life in the trash trade. This is a very thought provoking book. I didn’t think this was the kind of book that would keep my attention, but it did. It is a very personal story but at the same time i learned so much about garbage, and what happens to it. This is not just a book for environmentalists. It is a book for all people that enjoy reading well written nonfiction. I especially enjoy the author’s descriptions of his interactions with his grandmother at the family scrap yard. I hope there will be a sequel.

The author covers the scrap and recycling business from start to finish. . This one had some very valuable information. It’s definitely worth readingto begin, i’d like to mention the (very few) negatives in the book: first, the author covers a wide area, however, he misses one of the great re-cycling activities of our time, ship breaking. I do wish that he had visited the ship breaking facility at alang as this would have been an extremely worthwhile addition to the book. Second, he mentions “reduce, reuse, recycle,” but he doesn’t go into the subjects of reduce & reuse very much. Both of these are minor gripes and only take away from the book, what might have been valuable extra information. Perhaps the reduce & reuse portions of the phrase can be the genesis of another (most welcome) book (more on this below). The author grew up in a scrap yard in minneapolis. I am slightly familiar with some of the historical topics that he mentioned as i have lived in the twin cities for the past 30+ years. There are two that might be of interest to the readers of this book.

The title says it, the author backs it up. Minter documents his trip through the trash universe that deepens daily around the globe. The evidence is overwhelming. The book is the work of an author who reveals in the space and time beyond his work as a daily reporter. There are climate deniers who seem to be able to stare evidence in the face and still claim that global warming is no threat. I have not read or heard anyone who denies that the developed world, and the developing world are producing garbage and junk at accelerating rates. Minter’s work puts flesh on the bones of those facts. The result is a book that should be a call to arms and public policy focused on a problem that is generally acknowledged but seems impervious to control.

I found this book to be very interesting, your typical “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” story line. Sad to say that shipping all the unused recycled metals to another country, is a double bladed sword. Recycled materials , with the right technology in place (melting and environmental) actually consumes much less energy than starting with mined ores. We’re just moving our environmental problems to a third world country, at the expense of their health. Well written and “eye opening”. I wish someone would write a book on the 75% of unrecycled glass containers that could save billions in dollars of energy and landfill costs.

Loved this book and all the pictures. Really explains the importance of international shipping.

This book will change your perspective on what you throw away forever. A mesmerizing, totally accessible read that leaves you in awe and admiration for the largely invisible world of scrap recyclers around the world.

Its a good documentary i hope the next generations are more aware and inventive about what to do with our waste disposal.

Really enjoyed this book and learning about the whole process on something that i never thought about. Like most people, i toss stuff in the recycle bin and ‘out of site, out of mind’. In conclusion, reuse is far more effective than recycle.

A very interesting look at the global recycling trade. The author did his research well. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to better understand the recycling trade.

Lots of info on a less than glamorous business model. The growing mountain of junk which we humans create has made gigantic landfills, but more and more often these days, it is recycled. On star trek, quark of the big ears always asks ‘where is the profit?’.And, behold, here it is, in the things the rest of us throw away. Great fortunes are now being made in the business of collecting, sorting and recycling ‘trash’, and this book tells us something about the world-wide prophets and practitioners of this increasingly well-organized and wealth-creating business. Toward the end, however, it felt as if the author was repeating himself and padding a little, but otherwise, this was an informative, eye-and-mind-opening book.

Great book on an arcane subject. Brilliant explication of what happens to metals in the global recycling business.

Rubbermaid FG269288 Slim Jim Bottle and Can Recycling Top – Tall slender trash can lid

It is a lid that specifically fits without better options but is extremely overpriced and cheaply made. I very rarely write poor review (never) but this deserves the mediocre three stars.

Top fits rubbermaid commercial slim jim recycling container with venting. Top fits rubbermaid commercial slim jim recycling container with venting channels, plastic, 23 gallons, blue (354007be) to prompt people to put the right items in the bin.

Stays on and covers completely. Stays on nicely and covers completely so i can keep my recycle bin outside. It is hard to remove when changing the bag, so i just drape the bag over the top. Here are the specifications for the Rubbermaid FG269288 Slim Jim Bottle and Can Recycling Top:

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • Fits your Rubbermaid Commercial Untouchable square recycling bins
  • Ultraviolet stabilizer minimizes discoloring and fading
  • High Density polyethylene is strong and resists moisture
  • Color-coded tops encourage separation of recyclables
  • Measures 11-1/4″ x 20-14″

This lid adds more verticle space inside the trash can, however the opening usually does not close although it’s suppose to. I may have to make the hinge holes bigger so that the flaps will swing closed. Overall i give it 4 stars, because it fits the tall slender trash can well and adds more space inside the can.

The lids seem a little weird. They just sort of ‘perch’ atopthe containers. I have them where they won’t get knocked over, but if they did i would expect that the lids wouldbreak. A word to the wise: the lids are also a bit noisy when used. If container is in ear shot of someone sleeping, wait til the person wakes up to put trash in.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Great product, once I fixed it
  • Takes a licking and keeps on ticking
  • expensive but useful

This top to the rubbermaid slim jim recycling container cost almost as much as the container itself. But without the 2-holed top, people tend to put garbage in the container mixed with recyclables. There was enough room to put an ‘aluminum cans only’ sign and tape it to the space between the holes. The top fits loosely on the slim jim. I would prefer a more snug fit. The dimensions of the container and top were just right for the space alloted, so i grudgingly paid the asking price for this.

Some reviewers wrote that the trash can liner prevents the flaps from returning to the closed position. That is true, but i also found that with the right liner, and taking a few seconds to press the liner to the side of the trash can solved the problem for me. It is sturdy (and expensive). I have found that step-on trash cans break after a few years. This looks like it will last for many years.

I find it exceptionally useful in holding the clear plastic bag in place. I purchased this item to use with the container. I find it exceptionally useful in holding the clear plastic bag in place, and looks much nicer than having an open container. Since i keep it outside on my deck, i cover it with a large plastic garbage bag to prevent water entering the container when it rains. I would recommend this product.

Top cracked within three months of use in our kitchen (very light use). That’s ridiculous for something that cost $30+ and is meant for commercial use. Update: i contacted rubbermaid and sent them a picture of the crack and they quickly sent out a new lid at no charge. The crack shouldn’t have happened, but it appears that rubbermaid stands behind their product. I’ll bump them from two to three stars for doing the replacement.

Garbage stops it from closing. It works well enough but with the narrow opening; once it’s filled to the top, garbage stops it from closing. We have to constantly push the garbage down so we can use the entire bin. However, we did get it for it’s narrow fit in our business and to keep bugs from getting in and out. Again, it works well enough but a lot of food gets on the flaps when guests are pushing their food in which then of course attracts flies.

They go on solidly and allow bag changes over the top as well as clean up easily. . I use these for the top of my recycling center bins (slim jims) at home and use a chalk marker to label the top. They go on solidly and allow bag changes over the top as well as clean up easily.

Great lidholds the bag in place so it will never fall down into the can like other trash canswish it was no so expensive.

Takes a licking and keeps on ticking. So i waited to review and after two months of use i can tell you this thing is made for pain. I’ve run in to and knocked it off, i have basically thrown it, in all my gracefulness, while changing the trash and despite having cement floors it hasn’t even flinched. The color has distorted slightly, from the sun or the trash itself, but that is it. So pretty darn pleased with it.

Wish they were clearly marked. These lids fit perfectly on the slim jim cans. I wish they had marking on them to remind people that they are for cans and bottles. The sticker kit is far too expensive and difficult to find.

Trash can flaps malfunction. I purchased this item for work. It fit okay on top of the rubbermaid trash can. The issue i have is the door flaps get stuck and never close properly.

Great lids, just wish they snapped on instead of just sitting there. If you have dogs who like to get in the trash, you might to try to work something out with a bungee cord or something.

This is exactly what i expected. This is exactly what i expected. Was back-ordered so took a little longer to get here. So far i have not experienced any of the issues that have been mentioned in other reviews.

Rubbermaid Commercial Products FG263273BLUE Brute Recycling Container : diameter not correct

This recycling receptical works well. It, combined with the lid, keeps the critters out. It is attractive enough not to distract on my back porch. It’s nice to be able to have outdoor company and still recycle, without making multiple trips into the house.

I need a sturdy recycling container. The size of this container fits my needs and holds up very well. I did as previous comments suggested, drilling holes on the bottom of the container since this does not come with a cover.

I purchased this 32 gallon brute to replace the township dispensed container in my area. It is much sturdier and stronger than my previous container. It holds almost as much as my two containers did. And, because of the superior quality, i know it will out-live my previous recyclable container by many years. The only reason i did not give this item a five is because i would have loved if they had placed drainage holes in the bottom of the container, so that standing water in the bin would not be an issue. I am not particular about using lids on recyclable bins because my family tosses multiple items in the container several times a day. So lidless is a convenience.

We use for our recycle returnable pop cans and bottles.

Great price and fast shipping. I had to upgrade to the big daddy recycle bin. I probably should have ordered two but i am 100% satisfied with this ‘rubbermaid’ product. I was surprised by the speed in which the product was delivered (free shipping). It came shrink wrapped and was sitting on my front porch from the shipper. It’s basically a blue 32 gallon rubbermaid trash can.

Rubbermaid Commercial Products FG263273BLUE Brute Recycling Container with Venting Channels, 32 gal, Blue : This can – not the most exciting thing to write about – is the industry standard. In fact, it’s what our local garbage collector/recycling program requires us to use. They don’t provide them and that’s why i bought the can on-line. It’s tough, blue and doing a great job collecting our recycling.

I hate the little baby bins my city give us to recycle, i end up with a pile stacked on top of each other for the collection each week. Now i use their baby bins for any overflow i might have and this is my go to can. I drilled a hole in the bottom to let rain out and the can is thick and well made. Should hold up for many years. Like all plastics the sun will eventually kill it but i don’t see that happening anytime soon.

This can has a large recycle logo prominently placed so that the garbage can liner will not cover it. Will try anything that helps our organization recycle. This can has a large recycle logo prominently placed so that the garbage can liner will not cover it, and its color distinguishes it.

Rubbermaid makes great products. The quality of the plastic makes it extremely durable. I have several of their garbage cans and this recycling can seems to be made of the same, heavy duty, high quality, rubber-like plastic.

An excellent way to make sure recycling goes in the right can. This is a really good garbage can for recycling. I recommend also purchasing the matching lid – rubbermaid commercial 1788376 brute heavy-duty round waste/utility container, 32-gallon bottle/can recycling lid, blue. Together they are excellent at making sure only the recycling goes in the can. I own an rental property and we were having problems with the guests putting the recycling in the right can. There is no mistaking what goes in the can, especially when you add the lid. I highly recommend this product and i love the blue color. A similar product was over twice the amount of money at the local hardware store. I hope my opinion on this product was helpful to you :).

Very sturdy, great price and i love the color. I bought the lid with the hole in it so that we wouldn’t have to be constantly opening it each time to throw something away. Most of the trash cans i looked at that is this size costs a lot more. The lid i purchased is the rubbermaid commercial 1788376 brute heavy-duty round waste/utility container, 32-gallon bottle/can recycling lid, blue.

Blue version of old standard. If you like rubbermaid brute you will love this recycle can. Easy to move and easy to clean. Buy one if you are in a town that truely recycles.

Very happy with my purchase, perfect size for my family. Mine came with the recycle logo.

Great product at a great price. Considerably cheaper than what i found in my local neighborhood hardware stores. Keep in mind that this product does not come with a lid so you’ll either have to buy a lid or drill holes in the bottom like i did to let water drain out.

I actually ordered this for my 4 year old son. He is obsessed with trash trucks and all things associated with them. He specifically asked for a large blue trashcan for a gift. This was a bit pricey with shipping, but is exactly what i was looking for. It shipped quickly and was packaged very well.

Perfect for collecting bottles – shorter than your average trash can. We were throwing away so many glass bottles (well, putting them in the city-issued recycle bin) that we decided to buy this so we can sort and turn in our bottles for cash. This is sturdy and goes great with the bottle lid (available on amazon as well). The standard sized lawn trash bag fits perfectly in here if you want to use a liner. This was delivered in a box (contrary to other reviews i’ve seen where it was just delivered by itself with a shipment label affixed to the product itself).

Good can, maybe a little small for my application. I like this heavy duty can, but i think i’d go up one size if i were to do it over. Somehow it doesn’t seem to hold enough recycling, particularly when some of it is cardboard boxes either broken down or still intact.

The recycling labels mean that the right stuff is being put into it. Getting the top was a separate adventure.
