Nine Stars Trash Can/Recycler : The best product for the price

After all the research, it really does exist. When we decided to replace our 2 garbage can system with a dual compartment single can, i spent days researching. After seeing all of the sizes and reviews, i went into a store to see a couple of them in person in order to visualize them better. And each one only confirmed my fears–they were all tiny. No matter what, they would have never worked for us. I resumed my search on amazon again, and through a google search for something along the lines of largest dual compartment indoor trash can/recycler, i ran across this one again. I had looked at it before, but honestly i was discouraged from buying it because i was not a big fan of the big triangle stickers on the front of the can and at the time, i didn’t realize they were just that–stickers. But after realizing that this was the only can i could find in this size, i decided to give it a chance. As i was perusing the amazon reviews, i realized the triangles were stickers and that they were easily moved from the front of the can to the lid. I thought perfect and decided to take my chances and order it.

At first i absolutely loved this trash can. For the entire first year it worked flawlessly. Then, approximately 2 months after the one year warranty expired, the lid started acting crazy. Sometimes it would open and shut over and over even though there was nothing near the eye of the motion detector. I ended up turning the power switch off several times until it would settle down. It “automagically” seemed to correct itself for a while, but then it started having problems opening/closing the lid (it would make a noise, but only lift/lower the lid by an inch). I called customer support and they initially told me to perform a factory reset by removing the batteries for 24 hours. That did not work, so i called them back and they told me that i could buy a new lid for $38. 99 – but it could take “several months” to get it because they are in the middle of a corporate merger oversees and they are not set up to manufacture the new lids yet.

I love the fact that i only need one trash can in my kitchen instead of the 2 that i’ve had taking up a bunch of space. The stickers were ugly, so we took them off with goo gone and i made my own recycle symbol from my cricut machine (saw another reviewer and loved her idea) the bags i use are the 13 gallon ones but we just tuck them under the dividers well so they don’t hang out on the outside. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that is looking to save space, have a dividing trash can and want a sleek look.

We purchased this item in september 2014 and got 10 months of use from it. We loved it for the time we had it. Worked well, held a lot, easy to put bags in and looked good. However, the screw holes for the gears are made of plastic and eventually one broke due to vibration from regular use. My husband was able to open up the lid and fix the broken piece with some super glue, but that only gave us about another 2 months of use. Now the gears just skip and it won’t open the lid. It’s under manufacturer warranty, but we’re required to pay shipping both directions to get it fixed and/or replaced, which will cost about as much as a new trash can. Disappointed that we didn’t get more use out of this. It seems like it could be an easy fix by the manufacturer to use metal instead of plastic on these important functional pieces to make a more durable product.

Great before it inevitably stops working properly. . I’ve now had 2 of these trash cans. The lids stopped working reliably on both after about 2 years of service. Ninestars’s warranty only covers 1 year. It’s a great trashcan, but reliability is pretty poor, in my experience. Expect to replace this trash can every 2 years, give or take. Ordering a new lid costs more than the can, thanks to expensive shipping from ninestars (at least the price they quoted me when i contacted them a while back).

I have been using this for 3 years and i feel like this is a great product that was implemented with a few corners cut. Overall, the trashcan does what it says. It is one large can with a center divider and 2 sturdy plastic rings to hold the trash bags in place. The motion sensor opens the lid quickly, but it is a delayed reaction. You typically have to hover you hand over the sensor which is confusing for guests as they frantically wave their hand in front of it then just push the open button and walk away. I like that, but those guests don’t know it stays open so i often find myself clicking the close button behind them. The batteries last a decent while but as they start to die the trashcan develops a mind of its own.

Two pro tips for anyone about to order this can: 1) order your d-cell batteries now, and 2) order goo gone now for those infernal stickers. Yes, they are as hard to remove as other reviewers have said. I tend to overlook a lot of negative reviews, but in this case the complaints are spot on. I wish this company knew its target market better. Those of us who are obsessive enough to order this motion-sensor trash can are also nearly guaranteed to not want those ugly stickers on the front. (they are even less attractive than these product photos. ) they are the most difficult stickers i’ve ever had to remove. They are paper and peel off in the most minute fashion. I don’t want to order a trash can and then spend another 30 minutes removing the stickers.

Trash can works fine, stickers are made in hell by satan. . My husband really wanted it (of all things), so i figured why not?. I can easily remove the atrocious stickers when it arrives. Except here i am, an hour of precious toddler nap time wasted, still trying to get these ridiculous stickers off. I don’t have a hair dryer since we just moved overseas so i’m waiting on our stuff to arrive, but i’m hoping that will do the “trick”. I just don’t understand why the stickers would be placed on the front of the can, instead of the insides of the lid. That way it can blend in seamlessly to the rest of the kitchen, as opposed to having one’s eyes bleed every time they walk into the kitchen. I kind of feel guilty for leaving such a review, blame it on shark week combined with ocd-like tendencies, but because i’m usually a forgiving person, i’ll just knock one star off. You’re welcome ninestar (oh, the irony of their brand name).

Excellent trash can — performing better than expected, w/ only a couple minor annoyances. So far, i am very pleased with this purchase. I researched these for hours, read a million reviews, and decided on this one because i like the two compartments. Though the two compartments are nice, the reason why i chopped-off one star is because i wish they were a little bit bigger — not deeper, bigger (wider). I find that there is a lot of extra room in my garbage bags after i pull them out of the garbage can. In terms of locking in odors, i can definitely attest to this happening. When he comes to visit, i am cleaning up after him the whole time — stuff that i swear he used to scold me for as a child. In any event, he is a smoker. I had no idea that he threw his stupid butts in the garbage can until i went to throw something away a day after he left.

The two compartments are decent sized, and the bags are relatively easy to take out. If you are using a standard/tall kitchen trash bag, once you take the full bag out of its slot you will notice that you have a quite of bit of room to add extra garbage/ recyclables. The motion sensor is pretty sensitive as well, plan on the lid opening if you walk to close by it. You are able to turn off the motion sensor and manually lift the lid. Our item came pre -dented (in several areas) even though it seemed to have ample styrofoam padding in the box. The dents popped out easily but the metal in the areas that they were in are weakened. I do like the face that the back of the can is flat and fits up against our cabinets and that when the lid opens, it fits under the overhang of the counter top (standard height counters).

Love it, but the top doesn’t open all the way. But i would love it more if it worked properly. When we first received it, it worked perfectly. But after a few weeks of use, the lid now only opens half-way. If i manually push it to open it all the way, it stays open and won’t close automatically. I’m not going to bother trying to get it replaced as i’ve read feedback that the seller required that you have to pay your own shipping, and it’s not worth it to me. I’ll just keep using it in its half-way opening state. If it was working perfectly, i will say that i love the hands-free opening and closing. I don’t have to wipe my hands off to lift the lid while i’m cooking.

Great trash can, stickers don’t come off easily. We recycled at our previous home but did not continue the practice when we moved into our new home. We go through a lot of recyclables though so i wanted to start again, but i also wanted a very streamlined can such as this one versus having two cans. I didn’t even know if this product existed until i searched on amazon. I like the can itself a lot. The batteries are easy to install. The auto sensor works well to open and close the lid. As other reviewers have pointed out, you have to intentionally and somewhat slowly wave your hand across the sensor about 6″ away. There’s no houdini magic party trick. But that’s also okay so it’s not flipping open and closed when you walk by.

Nice looking and functional. I like this garbage/recycling container most of the time. The mechanism that raises and lowers the lid is a bit noisy, but i suppose that is normal and really isn’t a problem. I have to try to find better fitting bags – the typical 13 gallon kitchen bags are bigger than the bin needs so i usually throw away a bag that is only 1/2 to 3/4 full which feels very wasteful, but i am concerned about a smaller bag not hooking in effectively.

I like that each side is larger in capacity (9. 3 gal) than the popular simplehuman round step can (7. Com/simplehuman-round-trash-stainless-steel/dp/b0000e2oas/ref=sr_1_12?s=storageorganization&ie=utf8&qid=1439966812&sr=1-12&keywords=simplehuman+trash+can that i am replacing it with. Before, i had the step can, plus an unsightly brown paper grocery bag next to it or on the counter for recyclables. I also owned the single compartment nine stars http://smile. Com/stars-touchless-automatic-motion-sensor/dp/b0031m9h3a/ref=pd_sim_201_3?ie=utf8&refrid=1s7n4xvhswqwxt325tpd. I loved that it was easy to line and remove the waste bags and how it kept the smells in. I’m sure this one will just be as good. Better on this two compartment model is that the on/off switch is on the outside, rather than inside where it would get nasty crud on it. Con: i appreciated how someone said the stickers are removable, and they put them on the top. I was looking forward to doing that, and also switching the sides so that the side closer to the kitchen is for garbage. Well, to my dismay, the darn things are stuck on so well, i could only get a few tiny bits off the corners. So the stickers are damaged, and no longer able to be repositioned. I’m currently trying a tip online to use olive oil to remove adhesive. I’m going to have to buy new stickers to replace these.

The trash can itself is great however, all three orders came with a crease. The trash can itself is great however, all three orders came with a crease in the metal due to a true engineering blunder. The screw, located in the dead center of the front, which mounts the plastic frame to the steel is right on top of a ridge in the stainless steel. Obviously, when the screw is tightened the metal creases.

I like having recycling and garbage in one receptacle. The automatic open-close operated by batteries was too finicky. I like having recycling and garbage in one receptacle. Too new to know if it will keep the garbage odor contained. It does need to be emptied more frequently than my former solution of 2 plastic bins. Like the stainless steel styling. High price, but so far pleased.
