Full Circle Fresh Air odor-free kitchen compost collector – Excellent! Wish it came in another color, but otherwise most excellent.

If you don’t want your bags to disintegrate. We’ve purchased this back on earth day in 2012 and have used it every day since then. We will go through 2 or 3 bags a week for our coffee ground, tea leaves, egg shells, soiled napkins & paper towels, avocado pit & skin, vegetable trimmings, and garlic & onion skins. Anything larger than these items are placed in our stainless steel bowl and dumped directly into the compost pile – especially banana peels, which the fruit flies love. If you don’t want your bags to disintegrate before you can take it out to the municipal compost bin or your backyard, just make sure nothing is dripping wet in the first place. I usually let the coffee ground sit out for a while after the coffee is made so the paper coffee filter can dry out a little before placing into the bin. The 3 gallon biobags are a perfect fit for this compost bin and the best place to purchase these are through costco – a box of 125 bags cost only $12. The bag holder in our compost bin is 100% metal, no plastic.

Had this for a few months now. Some of the reviews worried me about its durability, but whatever issues this thing has had in the past seem to have been fixed. It’s well-made, easy-to-clean, and doesn’t smell or collect gross compact juice like the air-sealed bins. This is perfect for someone who lives in an apt or something and can’t keep the compost bin outside.

The last compost bin you’ll ever buy. This is the best compost bin ever. The air flow keeps the compost from getting stinky and it doesn’t get moldy and gross like other compost bins. For a couple, one compostable bag usually lasts us about a week and it still is smell free and happy after a week. Typically it never needs to be cleaned as the food touches only the bag and it’s easy to remove and put in another one. When we overfill it and the inside of the lid gets a bit dirty, it’s easy to pull it apart and put it in the dishwasher to get it shiny clean again. We’ve had this for several years and it still looks like new and works great. Well made, well designed and highly recommended.

This container works well for my composting purposes. I like the tab that will release the lid without my having to use two hands. No, it’s not fruit-fly-proof, but i just need to be more diligent in making sure no vegetable matter is in the way of the seal. Also, it’s not totally odor-free if the lid opens. I don’t care how much fresh air it gets around the sides, when the lid is up, odors do escape. But i like it loads better than the stainless steel bucket with lid i used to use.

  • Patented design lets air flow through for less odor and fewer flies
  • Opens easily with a push of a button
  • Easy to clean and empty for less mess
  • Ready to use, including five compostable bags
  • Perfect size for home and office (1.5 gallon)
  • Earth friendly materials: Recycled plastic, partially recycled steel

Nice sized composter that works great. Prior to the full circle compost collector, i would use a large plastic container to stuff compost into. It was inconvenient, attracted knats/flies, and left a mess in the container every time i dumped it. After doing this for awhile, i finally caved in and decided to look for a compost collector to make composting “more convenient”. After a lot of research, this composter seemed to be the best buy. Having not used any other composters, i can’t compare this composter to others, but i can share the upsides and downsides in my experience:upsides (pros)- single button push releases lid, which has a spring to throw it open for quick access. – the air flow is nice and combined with the bags, help control odor/knats. – it’s not small like the container i used before, so i can go several days before having to remove the bag. – because it uses bio-degradable bags, the unit stays fairly clean. Downsides (cons)- have to buy bags (but it also makes for easy transport to compost recycling bin).

Wish it came in another color, but otherwise most excellent. . I am new to the composting (thanks to my transient lifestyle, now settled so i finally ams starting a pile) and i was looking for any and all tools to help. I liked the idea of having a kitchen collecting area so trips to the actual compost site could be consolidated. Let’s face it, if it’s easy i am more likely to do it. Keeping a smaller container and making sporadic trips to the compost pile definitely falls under the making it easy theme. I was worried about odor though. One hint of an odor and i knew this would not fly. I am very happy to report after letting things build up for a week, including onions, old banana peels and other odor-inducing items i only smelled something if i actively had the lid opened. It stood an entire week before i emptied it and there was nothing unpleasant going on.

Full circle kitchen compost collector. This is a good product, and i am happy with it. It is a great improvment over what i was using(an ice cream bucket). There has been no discernable odor from it. There has been some mould growing in it, and there have been some fruit flies. I had hoped to get completely away from the flies, but there are still some. I like the push button type lid, it makes it easy to open. I like the wire around the top to help hold the composting bag. It was expensive, for shipping it to canada. It’s not exactly what i wanted, but it’s the best i’ve found so far.

Nine Stars DZT-50-6 Infrared Touchless Stainless Steel Trash Can – good, nice looking trash can. takes 4 D batteries

Good, nice looking trash can. We ordered this on prime day when it went on sale. Its a great looking trash can, and it has a little plastic piece near the top that rests on the inside of the lid to make sure the bag stays but isnt visible. Neat little feature i hadn’t seen before. The sensor is a little flaky sometimes. I’ve noticed sometimes it seems like it just turned off or something, and flipping the on/off switch in the back doesn’t make it come back to life. The only solution i’ve found is to take the lid off, open up the battery casing and make sure they are snug. This takes 4 d batteries to operate, which do not come included. Although the batteries are huge, i noticed they can become a little cockeyed within their grooves, and i think this is the cause of the loss of power sometimes.

It’s supposed to be motion operated, but sometimes when you try to open it by waving your hand in front of it, it doesn’t open. So you have to push the open button. Sometimes the open button doesn’t work either, and yes the power is on. There are also no handles on it, so it’s a problem to move easily if it’s full. Not the best can, but the price is right.

Looks nice, but touchless is overrated. I was a bit disappointed to open the package and see they did not include batteries (4-d batteries needed). I have it all set up now and it is not impressing me as much as i expected. The sensor is sometimes slow, i will wave my hand over two or three times to get it to pop open. The opening for the garbage is actually rather small, i have to turn dust pans sideways to dump the dirt in. The can does feature buttons for the user to open and close it if you need to override the sensor, but there is not a way to turn the sensor off all the time (and just use the buttons). If you turn the can off (there is an on/off button on the back), the up/down buttons don’t work. I was expecting this to be a feature of the can as i was not totally stoked about the sensor and just wanted a nice looking stainless steel can. It is a little difficult to get the bag in the can the right way (in order to hide it from view), but it does hide nicely which makes it look that much better. Fingerprints are not a huge issue, they wipe right off.

  • Everything I Could Dream of in a Trash Can
  • Look no further, this is well designed, and priced good, too
  • One of the best values i’ve ever gotten from Amazon

One of the best values i’ve ever gotten from amazon. Works amazingly well, never a problem. Looks fantastic, i get compliments constantly. And the batteries last forever, i’ve had this for a year and a half now and have never changed the batteries.

Infared sensor works like a charm on this trash can. The only complaint i have is the stainless steel can is very thin and dents easily. So be extra careful when you take it out of the box. I dented my can by putting too much pressure on the sides of it. Another thing you need to be wary about is the battery compartment is a bit larger than the actual batteries installed. So there is some give and when you place the cover back down on top of the can, it can loosen the batteries just enough that you loose electrical contact.

A top of the line trash can. This trash can exceeded my expectations. I read all the reviews before deciding to purchase it and i also ones on all the other brands of touchless trash cans on amazon. Com before deciding to go with this one. I selected it after reading complaints about other cans, such as walking by and the lid automatically going up, which people found annoying. Nine stars trash cans received consistently high reviews and justifiably so. Everything about it is great. When you put your hand by the front, it automatically goes up and only then. If you walk by or near it, it doesn’t open up–which i do frequently throughout the day. It’s so easy to change the bag, and the frame inside is easy to remove when replacing the bag.

Got a great deal, so i thought it would be worth a shot. Totally exceeded expectations. It is huge, and it works like a champ. Been using it for over a month now on the same set of batteries.

Maybe i’m just a gadget junkie, but i love this thing. I’ve had it now for over a month, and it has performed flawlessly. 13 gallon standard kitchen bags fit fine, the plastic ring on top keeps the bag in place and effectively hides the bag from showing outside of the can. The sensor works great, as do the push button controls. We did not buy a plug in power source, but to date, the batteries are working fine. I am especially pleased with the price, as this can be purchased for about the same price as a can with the foot lever for opening.

I bought this can to have a touchless can in my kitchen, it reacts fast and is easy to use, the batteries have not been changed in over a year. Consit closes very fast, it stays open for about 2 seconds before it closes again, even if your hand is still over the sensor. So if you have to throw away something big you have to do it fast or whatever you are discarding will get on the lid of the trash can. The opening is pretty small, some things you will need to smash to fit in easily or angle in different ways. This works against you with the quickness of the lid closing. Prosthe batteries last a long timeit has a nice sleek look.

Good trash can, slightly slow to open. There is a seam in the back, so make sure you keep that in the back of wherever you place it. The sensor is a little slow in opening sometime, which can be annoying. But it was a very good value (paid about sixty). The one other aspect that i don’t like is that when you hit the ‘open’ button, if something crosses the sensor, it acts per the sensor, and will close after the normal amount of time. So far it has held up well and looks good. In a previous version, the close button stopped working. The buttons don’t seem that sturdy, but have not had an issue with this model. Again, wish it was a little quicker, but it works well and looks nice. Good value, worth the purchase, and would likely buy again.

Look no further, this is well designed, and priced good, too. I have owned three auto-open garbage cans (incl. Although this one is still new for me, i can tell it has a better design than the other two that i’ve owned. The lid has a good design (no visible gears), where i don’t expect garbage and debris to clog the opening mechanism, as i’ve seen for the previous two cans i’ve owned. Also, this one is a smidge wider, which seems to coorperate well with pulling full bags out; another design element that i like better. A third element of good design is the ability to plug it in, but i’m not using that, and no cord was provided. This one is superior to at least two other brands, and undoubtedly less expensive.

I so love this trash can with the automatic sensor. I so love this trash can with the automatic sensor. My husband was very lukewarm about this purchase until we got it and now he loves it. It is so convenient when you are cooking and want to get rid of scraps but your hands are full or have stuff on them. The batteries last for a while too. I have not changed them yet and its been 2 months. It is nice looking too for the price. I was expecting a cheap can but this has some weight and quality to it.

This garbage can is outstanding. This garbage can is outstanding, because there is no need to touch a possible dirty can.

Batteries ran our rather quickly. Batteries ran our rather quickly. The people who said they lasted either never opened the can or rarely opened the can. The can does work well, no mystery opening and closing thus far. It does work to keep pets, flies and children out.

Everything i could dream of in a trash can. I read reviews and looked at about a dozen stainless steel trash cans and finally settled on this one due to the good reviews and economical pricing. I was definitely skeptical though. Let me tell you it has more than delivered. The auto open/shut is awesome. Upon arrival it looked rather small to me and i expressed concern that the trash can might not hold as much as say a cheaper plastic 13 gallons can would. When you pull a full bag of trash out, it it has used every square inch of space. With every trash can i have owned before, upon removing what appeared to be a full bag of trash the trash, the trash would drop down and you would have plenty of space to add more items.

Not as good as my old can. . This is a replacement waste can for me. I had one very similar to this one for about 3-1/2 years. I am disappointed with the speed this can closes. As soon as it is fully open, it begins to slowly close. This is a bit aggravating when you are scrapping off plates, for example, because the lid gets in your way before you are finished scrapping. My previous can stayed open for a few seconds which kept the lid from interfering when i had to scrape something into it.

InterDesign York Toothbrush Holder Stand : It looks good! Holds a fair amount of soap

I ordered to coordinate with my black kitchen sink made of a composite material. This dispenser sits there, blending in while it works as a soap dispenser. I got the soap dish that matches it for the dish sponge to rest in.

Holds a fair amount of soap. We got two pumps, one for each sink. Holds a fair amount of soap. There is a piece of felt on the bottom, so they don’t scratch your surfaces. . Although one of them came with a little chip in it and i wish i’d returned it, it stands outgreat rich color and it isn’t cumbersome next to the sink.

Looks nice and matches good with my other items but toothbrushes always slid threw diagonally and must always be adjusted to sit correctly. Also it collects a lot of toothpaste dripping ann’s dust so must be rinsed aloft a lot. Overall looks nice when clean and adjusted but i’ll probably look for an enclosed one it the future.

Great price, not super-well designed. This toothbrush holder is very cute and was a pretty good price, but it’s a little difficult to put your toothbrush back into. The bottom part is small, so you have to really make sure you guide your toothbrush to it so it doesn’t just fall through.

InterDesign York Toothbrush Holder Stand for Bathroom Vanity Countertops – Bronze : Great looking toothbrush stand. I recently purchased a bunch of oil rubbed bronze bathroom accessories and of all of them, i think i liked this toothbrush stand the best. It’s good looking, holds my toothbrush w/o having to “balance it” and even holds the wider handle brushes tha seem to be ubiquitous lately.

Another awesome product by interdesign. This soap dish is well constructed with a weighted bottom and designed to stay in place with a special sponge-like material. Interdesign has an entire line of products that are high quality at reasonable prices.

I bought this to replace another of the same make because the other was tall and unweighted–tipped over when using. Although this is shorter and round, it is not weighted, either, and is also difficult to use.

Stainless Steel 1 Gallon Compost Pail : OH MY YES! THAT WILL DO FINE.

Great compost bin, big bang for the buck. . Maybe due to the carbon filter in the lid, or due to the relatively cool kitchen in winter, or both, there was no leaking odor although i had accumulated about 1 week of kitchen scraps (onion, coffee, apple peels, etc. I will use it through next summer and post an update if i remember by then.

I wish i had something this nice to put all of my refuse in. I thought i was getting one that was all stainless steel/color but i received one with a black can and a brushed stainless lid and i’m keeping it. Very nice craftsmanship and beautifully executed design.

Great countertop compost pail. . It’s sturdy and very nice looking. The charcoal filter should help keep down odors. A nice size to fit under my counter and not have to be running out to the compost pile every day.

You’ll ask yourself ‘why didn’t i buy one of these before now?’. How did i ever do without this?. It’s attractive, efficient, very well made of good material, is a perfect size, absolutely no odor, and if i needed to replace it for any reason, i’d buy another exactly like it. Even each of my children was happy to receive their own compost palfor they make a unique and most welcome gift. If i could make one modification, i’d add padding to the bale handle.

Stainless Steel 1 Gallon Compost Pail with Filter (Stainless Vertical) : I’m not a big fan of stainless to begin with but i feel like it retains the odor even with a liner in. The outside is very stylish and goes well with my décor. I’m not a big fan of stainless to begin with but i feel like it retains the odor even with a liner in it. It also traps the fruit flies in between the filter and the lid. I haven’t had that problem with my last compost pail but i’ve also noticed more fruit flies than in years past. It works well and is easy to keep clean as long as you use a liner.

This is perfect and looks great on the kitchen counter (i like black appliances so it fits in well). It appears to be well made and sturdy. With normal care it should last a long time. I was surprised to find such a good quality item for such a reasonable price.

Does a good job keeping odors down. Used to just use an old plastic ice caddy from target for the peelings etc. If you didnt empty it into the compost in a day or so, it got stinky and attracted fruit flies. This one makes you lazy – weeks can go by without you noticing or emptying it. Not sure if that’s good or bad.

We got the white one and it’s so nice to have in our kitchen. We keep it right by the kitchen sink and rarely smell anything from it. We don’t bother with the bags inside – we just run it out to the compost pile and then wash it out before filling it up again. Our filters have gotten moldy quickly, but i think it’s just because the food touched them a couple times. We’ll buy replacement filters, but otherwise it’s a great product. Highly recommended if you love to compost (you should).

This one makes you lazy – weeks can go by without you noticing or emptying it. Not sure if that’s good or bad.

I was looking for something that would allow me to collect my compostable materials. It is small enough to sit on my counter, easy to clean, and hides the smells as it is filled up. Very pleased with this little pail.

I’m not a big fan of stainless to begin with but i feel like it retains the odor even with a liner in.

Nine Stars DZT-50-13 Infrared Touchless Stainless Steel Trash Can – It could be better

A nice looking and convenient trash can- who knew. Opens widely, can be kept open (just hit the ‘open’ button and the lid remains open), very easy to change the bag, no odors, batteries are still going strong. There is an on/off button on the back. The lid does open up if you walk by the trash can. I totally love it and highly recommend it.

I just received these today. Wow, super fast delivery (two day delivery). These do use three (3) ‘c’ batteries each (i bought two bins, one for recycles and one for regular refuse) and so far they have worked perfectly. I will post feedback in the future in the event of any hiccups or glitches with the motion sensor or anything like that. Overall; fast delivery, aesthetically appealing, and smooth operation earns this one 5 stars.

I love the can itself; however, i wish it could be opened manually, as well. I have to turn mine off on occasion (because it is in a high-traffic area) and then when i want to use it i can’t use it for an occasional waste can by just pushing the button. I have to turn the switch back on. Otherwise, the trash can is awesome. Here are the specifications for the Nine Stars DZT-50-13 Infrared Touchless Stainless Steel Trash Can:

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • STAINLESS STEEL/100%
  • Imported
  • Seals odor in and eliminates cross-contamination of germs with touch-free operation
  • Anti-fingerprint commercial grade stainless steel, best for kitchen, office, living room and bedroom
  • Energy saving technology keeps battery life 20% longer
  • Features a garbage bag ring to keeps the bag hidden from public view for a neat and clean appearance
  • Ships in Certified Frustration-Free Packaging

I really want to love this trashcan because it looks great, responds well to opening signals initially and is easy to change the bag. I waited to post until we had a little time to evaluate its performance, however. It has only been a few weeks to this point and i am no longer happy. It works initially and then it works off an on with no rhyme or reason. The previous reviews said to turn off the power to reset it, but that only works sometimes. When it quits it only opens partially and won’t get out of that cycle. Everyone also said about batteries going dead quickly, but i bought rechargeable batteries to circumvent that issue. Now i just have rechargeable batteries for no reason. We don’t have children or large dogs to complicate its use and it sits in a corner so it does not have random signals.

  • Great, looks nicer than similar units and works well.

Overall,we are pleased with this product. The only negative thing, is that the optical sensor is kind of sensitive, lid opens when walking too close by it. However, its no big deal for us.

Great, looks nicer than similar units and works well. . The trash can has a stainless steel lid and body. It is professional looking and does not have a cheap looking automation sensor, which is a problem with similar products. It is fast responding so when holding trash or even pointing a finger at the unit it opens immediately. The only con is that the lid doesn’t close as tightly as expected, but this is an issue with the weight balance of the lid that can be easily adjusted. A simple trick is to glue or secure a small weight like a silver dollar to the underside of the lid at the front, this adds just enough weight to close perfectly.

We had a big plastic garbage can that just had to go. We had a big plastic garbage can that just had to go, i had looked for a replacement a while back but the prices were crazyi found this and decided to give it a try and i have no complaints. The bags dont show, and the wireless sensor is great when you have dirty hands. Also if the lid runs out of batteries you can always open manually.

The trash can is visually appealing and keeps odors sealed well. It does keep the trash bag hidden under the lid, and it was one of the more affordable systems on amazon. However the touchless system is fickle. There are times when it works great, and opens immediately when it senses motion, and closes in a few seconds. Then other times, for no reason at all (it wasn’t being used and no one was near it), it simply will not work; the red light turns on, and you can hear the electric hum trying to reset the door so that it will open and close and sometimes this lasts a few seconds and the reset works, but then other times it’ll last an hour. Sometimes i just turn the whole system off for a day just to not waste battery and 85% of the time this resets the touchless system works again. In terms of battery: it uses 3 c batteries to power the system, i’ve had the batteries in for about 2 months so far and it’s not needing replacement yet. At the end of the day, i think if i had to re-purchase, i may have just opted for a simple stainless steel trash can without a touchless system.

I received hits two days ago. It came packaged very well and in perfect condition. It has been working very well so far. It takes 3 c size batteries. The battery compartment door seems to secure well. Some reviews commented that the door came off and fell into the trash, but i don’t see how that would happen if it is closed properly. The sensor works fine and is not too sensitive, so it does not open randomly to nearby movement. When you want to lid to stay open, just press the open button (before it opens with the sensor) and it will stay open until you press the close button. The only thing i can be critical about so far is the ninestars logo across the rear part of the lid.

I recommend this lightweight handsfree trashcan. I ordered this trashcan after my old one stopped working after about 8 years. This newer version is sleeker, lighter and easier to keep clean. It arrived quickly but the first one i ordered had a scratched lid and where the batteries go had a cover that was crazy hard to remove. That hard plastic that just hurts your fingers to try to work with. I requested a new one and it was sent right away. Great customer service as always with amazon. I now have the second one and it works great. A wave of the hand, the lid opens, long enough to throw away your trash and then pretty quietly closes. I use the glad 13 gallon drawstring bags and they fit perfectly.

simplehuman Butterfly Step Trash Can – Really glad I found these at Amazon

Absolutely the best kitchen trash can ever made. Absolutely the best kitchen trash can ever made. This is our second unit (for recycling). We have had the first unit for over 10 years without any problem and the design of doors (butterfly) is simply awesome. We have purchased several of these units as wedding gifts and always get compliments months and years later about what an awesome gift the units are. Don’t even look at any other trash can (over the years, i have purchased many other trash cans for the office, and other organizations i am involved with and this model/brand is, by far, the best ever made). I can’t say more about what a quality product this is.

I bought this because we needed a dog-proof trashcan. We had one of the locking trashcans made by simple human, which was supposedly dog-proof, but she was able to get that one open. I read the reviews where people said that their dogs were not able to break into this one, so we decided to give it a shot. It also looks very nice, and i love that the lid doesn’t slam closed. I would definitely recommend this item, especially if you are looking for something that can keep out a nosy dog.

I had a touchless trash can before. This butterfly step trash can is much better. It is lovely and easy to use and i love the trash can lid closes so silently and compact space by having the split opening. And you do not have to worry about batteries or it closing until you want it too. Had to learn how to put all those costco bags i had in this trash can. The instructions were inside the lid. I pull out the trash can inside can and put the liner in, pull the excess bag tight and twist the excess in back and tuck in the hole in the back and drop the bucket back in. If it lasts, it is worth the money. Here are the specifications for the simplehuman Butterfly Step Trash Can:

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • Split lid opens from the center for low clearance areas
  • Slim shape for tight spots
  • Strong steel pedal
  • Lid shox technology for a smooth, silent close
  • Hidden internal hinge
  • Finger-print proof

13 gallon bags are best with this bin. It’s a very nice trash bin and this size is probably good for a one or two person household. It’s expensive but it’s significantly better than the lower quality bins that’s passed off in the $75 range – i say either go cheap or all-in because everything in-between is disappointing. I empty it once a week and it’s usually full by then. 13 gallon trash bags are cheaper and work best; when it’s time to pull it out the trash spreads out and there’s a little space left to add an extra bulky item or two. With the special bags from simplehuman you’re left with a weird, unmanageable column of trash that doesn’t stand up on it’s own and if it’s full to the brim then the bag will be completely full.

I almost hate how much i like this trash can. I moved into a place with a smaller kitchen and thought, ‘what the heck, i’m an adult, time to get a real trashcan and replace the plastic barrel with lid long lost that i currently use. You put the bag into a container that’s removable. Garbage juice doesn’t leak into the actual can, and the container is easy to clean if anything does get in there. I’m told this is a common feature of big boy trash cans, but i graduated during the recession with a liberal arts degree so this is my first real trash can. Thanks, obamanone of that hand waving battery powered voodoo here, either. You use your foot, and that mechanism feels incredibly well made. It’s unreasonably pleasing to see the lid slowly come down and barely make a sound. Some trash cans with metal lids sound like a cymbal hitting the ground after a fall from the upper atmosphere, especially in the middle of the night.

The butterfly design allows it to fit under my counterheight overhang. Stainless steel looks sleek and fingerprintless has been working for a few days now. However, for a space saving design, the wasted 2 inches or so on either end are frustrating. I guess the mechanism is on one end, but the other is stupid. Price is also ridiculous, but that’s what we had to pay for what i thought was a larger trashcan to fit in out space. The inner can is really a smallish square, even if it is tall, so no bulky items will ever fit. Also, the dimensions listed on amazon were not very helpful. I had to go to three websiteseparate to figure out actual dimensions, capacity, open close height and so on. Simple human lists litre size and amazon lists gallons.

Finally, a trash can that is truly dog-proof. I bought this trash can because of the reviews that said it was dog proof. I am 100% happy with that aspect. My german shorthaired pointer can’t get it open and he can’t knock it over. The stainless exterior required constant cleaning to wipe off doggy nose prints the first few weeks as he tried his hardest to get inside. There are 2 reasons why i didn’t give this 5 stars. First, $100 for a trash can, even one that works as well as this one, is exorbitant. Second, it would be great if this can worked as well with regular trash bags as it does with the pricey simple human ones.

It seems like other people are not such a fan of the butterfly lid but i specifically chose this for the butterfly lid. It doesn’t seem like that important of a detail you might think?.First of all, the butterfly lid cuts down on how much clearance space you need above the trash can. Which makes it ideal for sticking it in small spots. Second of all, the problem i’ve always had with regular step cans, is that the lid would move backwards thus leaving a line on the wall. Partly because of flimsy cans (hitting it against the wall repeatedly would make the hinge break) and partly because the trash can always seemed to get so very dirty (they had a lip on them that touched the trash bag). So the butterfly lid actually takes away two of those problems, there’s not a line on my wall any more, and i can put more things above the can. The sturdy design of the trash can and its height means that the cat can’t get into it.

Really glad i found these at amazon. I did a lot of leg work before turning to amazon and ordering 2 of these for my kitchen trash and recycling. The black lid does not show finger prints like the all stainless models at the local box store. The items shipped separately and were extremely well packaged. Two of these side by side fit perfectly under the counter in my 1950’s kitchen. Love that the inner liner is rigid without being heavy. It’s no problem to pull the whole thing out when changing bags. I’m still using the 13 gallon glad tall kitchen drawstring bags that i previously purchased at amazon, so cannot speak to the simplehuman brand bags that were included. I am able to really fill the bags before needing to change them thanks to the solid construction and butterfly lid which may be among my favorite design items ever.

Pricey and doesn’t work for very long. . This is my second one in two years. After two years (or less) the mechanism will open but it won’t close. I reordered because i like the look and functionality. If this doesn’t last any longer, i will not reorder a third time.
