Finally, a trash can that my dog can’t get into. We tried less expensive ones with the lever at the bottom, only to discover that he’d flip them open with his nose. Since this one closes flush against the rim, he can’t get into the trashcans anymore. Of course, the fact that the bags are stored in the trashcan itself is another nice feature and makes space in my pantry for other things. Oh yeah, and since they sell different colors, its easy to tell which is trash and which is recycle :).
I have stainless steel accents in my kitchen, but stainless steel garbage cans are so hard to keep clean. This garbage can is the perfect compromise. It has such sleek lines, and the steel accents make it fit perfect. The lid closes slowly and is great quality. Can’t say enough good things about this garbage can, and it’d definitely worth the high price tag.
I would’ve given this product 5 stars as it looks great. However; when i opened it, i noticed a piece was broken on the inside of the lid. It still works fine, but makes it a bit clunky when opening the whole top to replace the liner. I honestly expected more out of a $75 trash can.
Especially because i open it with the pedal and it closes by itself. I don’t touch it at all until i have to change the bag and the bag is sturdy and strong enough that trash stays inside bag, it doesn’t tear or leak. I highly recommend this for your kitchen.
I really wasn’t excited about spending this much for a trash can, but it is definitely quality. I’ve had it for a couple months and no issues with the hinges or opener. The bag dispenser inside is a nice touch.
While i love the can, i am disappointed that you can only use the simple human bags with it. Our 13 gallon costco trash bags do not fit around the opening. I did not see this in the description for the item.

Can’t say enough about how much i love this design. The bag holds open and can be filled all the way, no wasted bags and no need to constantly empty the trash for bulky items. The liner refills built in seems like no big deal but it’s huge. Convenient instead of going to the cabinet for a refill it’s easy and a reminder sitting right there to just replace the emptied bag. Stays clean, smooth operating. My curious pug can’t knock it over.
Worth buying the special bags. No fighting to pull the bag out. No unreliable electronics (had those, in the garbage now). Pretty big though but if you have a spot, it’s worth the price. Like how it looks clean all the time. I was constantly cleaning my old stainless steel one.
Keeps the stink out of my kitchen and the bags never fall down in the can. Loved the samplebags they sent with it but glad bags work perfectly too.
We love this trash and its price. Works so good for keeping odors and roach away. I don’t just love the look of it, but how the lid opens and closes, it gives me enough time to scrape a plate in there and even my 4yo grandson can use it without having the lid slamming shut on him. Delivered on time and great packaging. If you need a great trash can, go for this one.
Despite the 3 star rating, this is actually an excellent trash can. It’s sturdy, attractive, and i love that there is an area to store the new trash bags so they’re always handy. It was the service with which i had a problem. The lid was not included, and when i called i was told a lid could not be shipped separately, and i would need to send the original item back and a new one would be sent. I am an old lady with arthritis, and this was a big bulky item. It even said on the box ‘heavy item. I did manage to get it repackaged and dragged it back to the front porch, but that was as far as i could go. Olivia, my service rep, arranged for fed ex to pick it up, so it all worked out. But it would have been so much easier if they could have just sent the lid. Or, actually included it in the original shipment.
The lid lowers gently so there’s no noise. The rim both secures new bags, and hides the bag’s edges. While the can comes with special bags, standard bags can easily be used instead.
We have stainless appliances but our last stainless garbage can was impossible to keep looking clean. These cans are easy to clean and look very nice. As silly as it sounds, we always get compliments on themlove the bag insert inside but after we used up the bags that were included, we’ve just been using 13 gallon costco bags which fit perfectly.
I got one of these december 2016 after seeing my sister’s can & it’s the best garbage can i’ve ever had. The lid firmly sits inside of a lip so smells are contained in the unit. Tall kitchen drawstring bags with febreze and they fit just fine. I bought this after pricing different brands at walmart. It cost a few dollars more than the bh&g brand & i got a significantly better unit delivered in perfect condition to my front door. The bag doesn’t show when the lid is closed because of the 2 piece lid & this makes for a neat look. A 5 yr warranty is nice too 🙂 if i change my mind i’ll update this but i don’t know how something could go wrong.
I first bought at target, loved it so much i found it on amazon and got a second. Ive purchased many trashes before, electronic ones expensive ones of all kind. These ones are the best because they are sturdy they stay still and come with bags.
It looks nice, but could use more weight at the bottom so it’s not moving around on the floor when you push the pedal to life the lid.
I bought two and set them side-by-side at my furnished rental property. They’re beautiful and practical, and the step-to-open mechanism seems sturdier than others i’ve bought in the past. The hidden pocket for storing a bag supply is ingenious. These are great, and my renters love them as much as i do.
Looks great with a lid design that covers the edge of the bag. Soft close lid is nice as well. One small issue is that it tends to slide backward a little each time you step on the pedal to open since the back of the can tapers in. I have it up against a wall and the metal bar on the bottom was marring the floor a little where it slid. I put a foot long 2×4 behind it and it fixed the issue. You cannot see the 2×4 spacer but it would be better for simplehuman to reevaluate the design. Still five stars as it works great and may just be the way we have it set up or use it that causes the issue.
I own multiple simplehuman trash cans and i ventured to buy the plastic version. I was skeptical of how it would compare to their metal cans, but, i actually like the plastic more. The design is stylish and the quality is fantastic. My favorite feature is how you can store the bags behind the trash can and it makes changing the bag that much easier.
I really would like to give this 5 stars. It’s a very attractive can and works well. My biggest complaint is that the bags that come with it and also the bags from costco fit very tight. It’s hard to get them on the can. It’s a real struggle especially with arthritic hands. Normally i would buy the simplehuman bags but since they don’t fit any better than costco’s i will save the money. On the plus side the can is big enough i only have to empty it once a week and then it’s usually only about half full for a single person. It would be especially great for a larger family. It doesn’t seem to move around much, if at all.
Great trash can that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Replaced my previous simplehuman dual-compartment stainless steel trash can and was worried this wouldn’t have as nice a look or be as sturdy because it’s mostly plastic not metal, but both of those were proven wrong. It is solid/well-made, doesn’t tip or fall over when you use the foot petal to open itneven when it’s empty (good weight distribution) and looks nice/fancy for a trash can at a fraction of the cost of the bigger fancier models they have. And i love the size, for a single guy who lives alone provides tons of volume for my garbage without having to constantly haul bags to the garbage room.
Wanted to go modern with a trash can. However didn’t like the idea of a stainless finish. I think i would find myself cleaning finger prints too often. Looks nice and hasn’t had any issues with the step opener at all. I waited awhile before placing a review because i wanted to see if it was sturdy enough. It is and i highly recommend this trash can.
And i love that the kids cant grab the lid to open it like they do with the cheap cans, hence leaving dirty hand prints all over the top. They’ve learned they have to step on it to open it alleviating one less mess. I however don’t really like the design of the lid on the inside, there’s a crevice that’s very difficult to get into and clean if the lo’s dont clear the can which happens often. And the liner pocket in the back is genius. I just wish the liners were a little more aforable. Over all i’m extremely happy with this can.
Never thought i could be in love with a trash can, but here i am. My cat (convinced he’s a dog or raccoon in disguise) would claw at the bag on my old trash can and actually get inside to mess with the trash even when i put the bag down. I cringed at spending so much on a trash can but it works perfectly and has defeated my pesky cat. Have had no problems in the month or so that i’ve used it. Highly recommend for pet parents.
Ok, i couldn’t believe that i bought a trash can that cost so much. I had regret the second i pushed the complete purchase. I kept thinking, ‘ i’ll just return it and pay the shipping. ‘ then it came, opened the box, and it was instant love. The lid is sturdy, the materials are smooth and nicely finished. The action on the lid is, well almost calming. I felt the same way when i got my dyson vacuum. Good design does cost more, and it’s worth it.
Tip: use costco 13 gal bags, fold them like tissues so that when you pull one out, the other comes out partially for the next use (if you want to save $$ on bags). However, nothing beats their original intended bags of course. This is hands down the best trash can i’ve ever used.
I still can’t believe i spent $80 on a trash can, but so far i can say it’s the nicest one i’ve ever owned. I had a simple human one previously that had a broken stepper so i was looking to replace it with something slimmer. This thing is really great with it’s slim design and it can be pushed directly up to the wall and still open fully. My last can i had to keep a good inch or so away from the wall in order for the top to open all the way. Very stylish looking, slim, compact, and takes up much less space.
Buy a cheaper trash can and you won’t be as happy. Best trash can for the money hands down. We have a more espensove one that’s all stainless that was closer to $200 and this one is just as nice, if not nicer, albeit not all stainless.
Doesn’t fit standard garbage bag sizes let alone the ones you can buy from costco (13 gallon). Very high quality plastic but disappointed you either have to use super large generic bag replacements or their proprietary ones.
I thought it was a bit crazy at first, paying this much for a garbage can. 7 months later though and i consider it one of the better purchases i’ve made. The good: bags never fall into the container (unlike most garbage bins for 13 gallon tall kitchen bags) tapered design means i’ve rarely had a full bag get struck when trying to remove it, let alone rip. The little bag dispenser is convenient, if a bit silly. Finally it just looks goods. The bad: it’s expensive, as are the custom fit bags. I could see them becoming an issue for a large family, however for a childless couple that recycles a lot this hasn’t been much of an issue. This will fit 13 gallon tall kitchen bags, mostly just at the cost of capacity.
Trash cans haven’t always been around for families to dispose of their trash in. So what did they do with their garbage?. That depended on where they lived. Farmers and their families turned food scraps into pig slop. Of course, pigs will eat anything, even dead bodies, so who knows what was fed to them. What wasn’t fed to the pigs was buried in a hole in the ground or burned. So for those who lived on farms, trash disposal wasn’t that much of an issue. But what about those who lived in the cities, especially those in apartment buildings?. They wouldn’t own their own property to dig holes and bury it. Tenants might own pets, but it is doubtful they would have their own pigs.
Oh my goodness, yes it’s just a trashcan, but this is the best trashcan ever. I never thought i could get excited over a trash receptacle but i have. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, but it is plenty spacious while being just the right shape to not take up too much room. This is a must-have trashcan for all households.I will be purchasing more for our house soon.
Excellent made–sturdy & very functional. Larger that standard tall kitchen trash cans. Rectangular design allows it fit nicely near wall. Bag dispenser, however, protrudes and prevents unit from sitting flush against a wall. Top is strong and has hinge that can keep lid open. Size precludes using ‘standard’ off the shelf bags, so, simplehuman becomes your bag vendor when you own this product; they are somewhat pricey. Overall, an attractive, well constructed and useful step can.
We have used a variety of garbage cans over the years, and this one works the best for us. We wanted something that sits close to the wall, but would not rub up against it. We also were concerned about the foot mechanism and its construction, as we have had other break either slowly over time or all of a sudden. We were concerned about the plastic outside, but it has been holding up very well since we bought it. Its very easy to clean, doesn’t leave smudges and won’t rust either; which are nice. We do also like she very much as well.
I have had this trash can for a few months now, and yet still everytime i use it, i’m happy with my purchase. My wife says i’m getting a little too excited about a silly garbage can, but let me assure you; every aspect of this thing screams quality and superior design. Our previous bins all suffered from broken hinges or opening mechanisms early on, and we just adapted to manually opening it by hand over the years until we caved and bought yet another that would repeat the process. Well, those days are over, and simplehuman has delivered this masterpiece. The open/close mechanism is silent and feels solid, the in-can bag storage is a convenient touch but i’m cheap and just use regular flexible 30 gallon drawstring bags from the grocery store. They fit the can perfectly as the sample bags that shipped with it. The bin is very easy to keep clean, and a few more nice touches are the stay-open top that stays up if you lift it manually (this helps when throwing a heap load of scraps into the can, or if you want to change the liner), and the rubber feet that keep the trash can in place when you step on the pedal. I also praise the fact that you never have to struggle the full liner out of the can, it simply pulls up and out easily, every single time no matter how full you stuff it. I will never try another brand of garbage can.
We wanted a new kitchen trash can. The wife wanted stainless steel and a rectangular shape. Many opened by waving a hand over the top but that seemed like something that would fail before too long. The previous one opened by stepping on a lever which worked fine so that is what we wanted. However, the stainless steel versions of those were expensive, too small, or had bad reviews. This one did not have any reviews but the other ones by simplehuman all had good reviews. The wife decided the white color with some stainless steel hardware matched the kitchen fine. This can seems well designed and sturdy. It holds a lot more trash than the previous one did due to its rectangular design. The step opening works fine.
Good quality and it matches all our appliances which are white with stainless handles. I like the way the bags are stored in the back, so convenient.
