simplehuman Step Trash Can, Great product at great price.

Seals tight, operates well, looks great. It’s also a better solution for diapers. . The simplehuman foot petal is smooth and easy to operate. It overall looks better than any other white trash can. It is an especially nice alternative for diapers. I bought this after two diaper genies broke. The simplehuman contains odors just as well and i don’t have to buy special trash bags. It is less likely to fall forward (onto baby) because it is deep and narrow.

I purchased the exact same trash can back in 2002 — and it just broke a couple of months ago. So that’s a durable trash can. I love how easy it is to keep clean. I tend to use 409 or scrub it out with comet if it gets real grimy, but for the most part my kitchen trash bags fit great. I love the step on aspect and the fact that its slim and white because it’s not such a sore thumb sitting next to my white refrigerator. I was happy to find they were still making it and that they really haven’t messed with such a great design.

Well it’s a trash can, what is there to say?. It holds my garbage in place really wellactually the can seems well constructed and really is slim, letting us put it in our kitchen between a cabinet and the doorway without it sticking out into the walkway. The foot opening lever seems well constructed and when you let go of it the lid closes smoothly and slowly and doesn’t slam shut. Changing out the bags is easy, the lid opens up all the way so that you can simply pop the bag in and fold it down all the way around the edges. My 10 month old boy is fascinated by the can, though it can tip over easily if they try to pull up on it. That happened once and we have since blocked off the kitchen with a baby gate, but that’s not really the fault of the can, it’s obviously not intended for toddler use.

Comments from buyers

“Better than any stainless steel waste can I’ve owned, Compact design great for our nursery, Works great, just make sure this is what you want before buying”

Great hamper for baby’s stinkies, kissa’s antibacterial pail liner fits perfectly. This step trash can is used as a laundry hamper for my baby’s clothes and cloth diapers. I bought it the same time as the kissa’s antibacterial pail liners because i read another reviewer who said these two items fit together perfectly. If i were to suggest a third item to go along with this winning combination, it would be the real simple laundry mesh bags to hold those baby socks and stuffed animal toys. Anyway, simplehuman has never let me down. Every one of their products that i’ve bought has lasted me years, and each product seems to be engineered and designed very thoughtfully. I’ve only had this product for almost two months, but i’m sure i’ll be just as happy with it two years down the line.

Seems to be quality product – time will tell. Received this kitchen trash can (waste disposal receptacle for the well heeled) today and am well pleased with it so far. The only assembly issue i had was getting the lid to snap on but using a little vaseline as a lubricant took care of it. For a 10 gallon can the wheels are a little overkill for me but, having said that, as it has wheels there should also be a retractable handle to pull it with. It is a little low for me to pick it up from under the lid and pull it around. On the plus side i was not aware that the lid actually has air cylinders to slowly and smoothly bring it down after removing your foot from the opening pedal (vs. Dropping like a rock as most other cans do). The lid can also be positioned to remain open if desired and can be locked when closed, again if desired, to prevent spills or keep small children or pets from getting in to the trash. Also, as this model opens from the end instead of from the side, it is perfect for where i wanted to put it. All in all seems to be a well made product and i would recommend it.

Excellent and also great value. We have owned this for about a year now. Prior to buying it, we owned a unit that opened automatically by sensors (very good but expensive and not durable in the face of our young kids) and also a cheaper plastic can that more or less fell apart with only 6 months’ use (the top started to wobble when one stepped on the pedal to lift the lid, and then eventually the lid basically failed to lift straight or come back down to a closed position). After about a year the garbage can still works like new: 1) it has an easy pedal lift, 2) the locking mechanism to keep kids and dogs out is simple to use with one hand and works, 3) the garbage bags install very easily and they secure under the lip all around the perimeter— on prior cans i felt rather stupid trying to get them on and finding it difficult and on this product it it quite simple, 4) the whole unit is sturdy and still looks new (we bought the black one). I am writing this review because our prior experience was a daily minor annoyance. This product, for not much money, provides an ease of use for something we use many times a day, and now without a hassle. Just passing on what i hope is useful information and feedback.

Great, narrow-area trash can. We’ve had this can for 3-4 years now, and it’s plugging right along. Durable plastic, foot-life mechanism works great (and you can push the lid all the way back and keep it open, say, when you’re shucking corn and need it to stay open). Great shape for a narrow spot in your kitchen, and stylish if you need something out in the open like we do.

I bought this can because my 1 yr old son loves to ‘explore’ trash cans and i needed something that locked. This can locks and unlocks easily for adults, but a toddler won’t be able to open it. My son still checks it regularly to see if i happened to leave it unlocked, but when it’s locked, he walks away and gets into something else :)i also really like the step-pedal so that i don’t have to handle the trash can when my hands are dirty (raw chicken, etc. )i’ve had no problem using regular 13 gallon bags in this can.

Difficult to assemble, but worth it. . It was difficult to assemble, and the locking mechanism isn’t exactly easy to use if you have weak hands. It’s perfect, though, for keeping my naughty dog out of the trash. I can even use regular kitchen trash bags. You could buy bags to fit the shape better, but why bother?.

Even i can put it together. . Like many other reviewers i had an electronic steel can. Based on the reviews i bought this one. I was able to get the lid attached without tools and without tearing out what little hair i have left. Once you line it up two hits with your fist causes the cover to latch on to the can and you are done. My forceflex bags fit very well. I was really glad about that as i have an unopened box of 100. I hope i feel the same way 6 months from now.

Ok, but not worth the price. It is a decent trashcan, and i like the locking part. However, it is a bit short to make it easy to pull from place to place since it has no handle. It is also quite a bit smaller than the size of my regular trash can. It is nice that it is slimmer, but of course, it has to be emptied more often. It’s not bad, but i would not have spent this much money and would have just stayed with my current trashcan.

I bought this to replace a stainless steel simplehuman can i already had. After weeks of my one year old opening and closing our old can, i decided to look for one with a lock. I love the new one we replaced it with. Not only does it have a very useful easy to use lock, but i also like the shape of this one. I was concerned with this one being plastic, because i thought my toddler would move it around easily when it was empty. But, i’ve never had this problem. I love this product and i’m so glad we bought it.

I was admittedly perturbed when my wife unveiled our new $40 garbage can. I guess i’m of the school of thought that preaches the can in which you dispose of your goods should cost less than those goods that are disposed. However, after 4 weeks of use of the simplehuman step trash, i feel like i’ve been born again. The quite close, sleek design and locking lid are well worth the premium you pay for this can. I am very happy with it and would recommend it to others.

Great value for this trash can. Not the most sold designed can, but for the money, was well worth it. Our 1 year old boy was getting into our old trash can every day. We were looking into options, and looked at some of the touchless units, but thought he would be able to open those even easier than the manual ones. So we bought this unit since it has a locking top, and holds quite a bit despite it slim design. Since it is not stainless steel, the plastic can absorb a lot of the smells from the trash, so cleaning it once a week or every 2 weeks is a must, but just a quick and simple spray and wipe.

Our kitchen does not have any good space for a trash can. This is narrow enough that we can get past it even against an end cabinet and in an area designed for a walk-way. The lid comes down slowly after stepping on the foot pedal – don’t have to worry about smashing fingers. We use standard grocery store kitchen trash bags – 13 gal – no problems. Also like the wheels – easier to move around if i decide to temporarily relocate it. It does have a fastening latch on the lid if nosy pets are a problem or if someone needs to protect a toddler.

Excellent cloth diaper pail. I purchased this can to hold dirty cloth diapers in my son’s room, and it’s fantastic. The pedal makes it very easy to open so i can hold onto my son while throwing the diaper into the laundry. I line it with a blueberry diapers diaper pail liner, and the size is perfect. The can will still seal closed around the pail liner, so the smell is kept to a minimum. I also like how the lid can lock; if i ever need to use it as a wet pail, i feel much better about being able to lock the lid so my son can’t get into it. We like the can so much, we plan on purchasing 3 more of them for the main level of the house (trash, recycles, and a diaper pail for the 1st floor). The profile is slim and we hope the lid lock will keep our son from ‘exploring’ the trash and recycles too.

Great product, highly recommend. There are two very similar cans by ‘simplehuman’, and this one offers the slim design while the other is the typical wider design, while still slim lengthwise. Both cans would offer the same ease of use, it just depends on what you are looking for. This thing is great- the 12 gallon trash-bag fits into this thing perfectly. I was worried at first because it doesn’t have an insert to attach to the bag, but it doesn’t need one because the bag fits snug against the can and is hardly noticeable when the lid is closed. Also- even when you overfill the bag, it comes out of this can smoothly and with no resistance (unlike round cans that rip and shred the bag as you pry it from the can). It is a nice enough looking can, mine black with stainless steel accents, and it’s lock functions as it should. It’s got a simple design, which means it will last longer than the fanzy-pants no-touch (they die, don’t buy one). If you’re looking for a trashcan, you’ve found it- go ahead and add this baby to your cart.

Bad hinge ***great customer service/warranty*. It works but the lid continues to come of the hinge. But now, it now happes all of the time. As the plastic becomes soft over time it will do this. The more it comes undone the more the hinge (it snaps in) beomes stretched and works worse. Need to spend more and get a can with a basket inside as well. I had called about the hinge/lid and they will send a new one as there is a 5 year warranty. They did not ask me for any proof of purchase. 10 days later the wrong part arrived. I called and they will send out the correct part.
